One of my favorite things to do is peruse a health foods store. It’s like walking around a maze with good-for-you treasures around every corner. From incense to mushroom supplements, you really never know what you’re going to find and the workers hold an unreal wealth of knowledge. I know this first hand because my awesome father-in-law is one – Hi, Russ! J So, pro-tip: whenever you go to a health food store, talk to the people working there. They are happy to help and they’ll be able to steer you in the right direction if you’re confused by certain products or if you have a certain ailment you want to focus on.

So, without further ado, here is what we found…

Natural Sea Wool Fiber Sponge ($17) – You can find these at Whole Foods or your local Health Food Store. Although pricier than a synthetic loofah, sea sponges are natural and contain no artificial ingredients, harsh chemicals, or toxins of any kind. They are softer, more absorbent, lather extremely well, and don’t cause skin irritation. They also last much longer than synthetic sponges and are full biodegradable – yay for being good for the environment! Synthetic sponges are processed with chlorine and other chemicals which have been linked to a variety of problems – from skin rashes to cancer. Plus they are not biodegradable.

Ancient Nutrition Bone Broth Protein Sample ($2) – John has tried the unflavored version of this, but has wanted to try the vanilla. Bone broth protein provides protein and type II collagen. This is dairy-free, so if you have trouble with whey protein, this could be great for you! It’s a little bit thicker than regular protein when it is mixed with liquid.

Badger Sore Muscle Rub ($10) – This is an all-natural alternative to Icy Hot or any other chemically-processed sore muscle rub. It goes on super smooth and smells awesome. It doesn’t have the overpowering spearmint smell of Icy Hot, but rather a subtle hint of peppermint and eucalyptus. All of the ingredients are certified organic, including olive oil, beeswax, castor oil, menthol, clove oil, eucalyptus oil, ravintsara oil, peppermint oil, and cajeput oil.

Calcium Citrate ($8) – Calcium Citrate with Magnesium can be used for bone health, energy levels, digestion, muscle aches, and headaches. When looking for vitamins or supplements, look for brands with ingredients you can pronounce. This one is 85% calcium citrate, magnesium, watercress leaf, dandelion root, and parsley leaf.

Vanilla Shortbread Bulletproof Bar ($3) – My health coach, Jess, suggested these bars for an on-the-go snack option. I tried it today and it was like eating a real shortbread cookie!! Bulletproof is an awesome brand because of the carefully sourced ingredients that they use. These bars are made with collagen protein from grass-fed cows, which is great for your skin. There’s also less than 1g of sugar per bar which is bomb dot com. Some of the ingredients include organic cashew butter, chicory root fiber, coconut oil, organic cashews, vanilla beans, and sea salt.

Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil  ($2) – Another great product from Bulletproof that I’ve wanted to try. Brain Octane oil is 100% pure coconut oil cleaned with activated charcoal and refined using only heat, water, and pressure. For the last week, I’ve been adding organic coconut oil and collagen powder to my mushroom coffee in the morning. Adding healthy fats to your coffee increases energy, speeds up your metabolism, and boosts your immune system. Coconut oil is made up of MCTs (Medium Chain Triglycerides) which are more rapidly absorbed by the body and are quickly metabolized as fuel and not stored as fat. Don’t be afraid of healthy fats!!

Vital Proteins Collagen Beauty Water ($2) – COLLAGEN!! Collagen helps to enhance skin hydration, improve skin elasticity, and maintain firm skin. It’s MAGIC. This particular collagen has no added sweeteners, fillers, or additives. It has a slight refreshing cucumber flavor and is great to add to your water, smoothies or tea! On a daily basis, I use Great Lakes Collagen in my smoothies and coffee, but the Vital Proteins was a nice change!

Clear Quartz ($5) – This might be a little woo woo for some people, but I have recently become interested in natural crystals and the powers that they hold. This crystal in particular, clear quartz, is one of my favorites.  Wearing, carrying, or meditating with clear quartz opens the mind and heart to higher guidance. Clear quartz amplifies whatever energy or intent is surrounding it. It helps to intensify healing or spiritual growth. One great source for information is @Goldirocks on Instagram. I like to keep the clear quartz on my bedside table and I put it next to me when I take a bath. If you’re looking to build your own collection of crystals, I would suggest going to your local health food store and taking a look at what they have. Picking crystals can become very personal, so take your time and find the crystals that make you feel good. There are TONS of different crystals and each of them has their own special properties.

Plus CBD Oil Spray ($20) – CBD Oil has been proven to help with pain and inflammation, anxiety, nausea, seizures, cardiovascular health, and has cancer fighting properties. This is a great guide if you are new to CBD.
